Warranty Buying Guide

Before making a decision in purchasing a product, you need to do some research about the warranty that a seller is offering, especially if you buy an expensive products. As a customer, you would want the product that you buy to be in a good condition for a long time. It would also be a great idea to compare one warranty to the others of the same product in order to know which one offers you the best advantage. For customer protection, there are several types of warranty available.

The first one is the express warranty which is usually in form of a written warranty which specifies the condition of the products that can be returned, replaced, or repaired by the seller. You need to compare this kind of warranty because some might give you a replacement of some parts of a machine, for example, while the other would do the same thing but with less or more parts. If you are searching for a product such as washing machine, dishwasher, hot tub, etc, it would be better to do it in a well known store rather than doing it online because online providers tends to hide the warranty or creates such a complicated system to get you reach the warranty paper.

Once you read the warranty, you need to explore all the rules and regulations carefully and it is necessary that you understand completely about what the warranty says about the product. If there is something that you do not understand, you need to ask the seller or the store staffs immediately to get the complete information.

This express warranty can also be made orally by the seller without the actual intention to create a warranty. A simple example is when someone says, ’This washing machine is the best and will clean any kinds of clothes’. Of course you cannot rely on those kinds of comments that sound more like an advertisement but in some level, a seller is allowed to make statements or opinion about one product. While getting people’s opinion is important when you are in search for a product that would cost a lot of money, it would be better if you get more than one opinion.

The next type of warranty is the implied warranty. The warranty of merchantability is an implied warranty. It means that the product would have to look and perform as they should be. So if you purchase one machine that looks alright and seems like it would work perfectly, but once you get home you find some hidden defects on it, then it is the violation of the warranty of merchantability and has to be claimed to the seller.

Another implied warranty is the warranty of fitness for a particular purpose. This warranty is implied on the cases when a buyer depends on the seller to pick the right product that meets the requirement. An example of a violation of this guarantee is when you ask a seller to pick a washing machine that is able to wash wool material, but in fact, the seller provides you with a washing machine that does not have a program to wash wool material. A seller should be a person that would give you suggestions and not to be relied on making decisions, especially when it comes to expensive products.

A warranty of title is also a part of the implied warranty. It means that the seller must have the right to sell the product; the product is not stolen, a legal product, etc. The intention of this warranty is to protect the buyer from any disadvantages that might occur when the rightful part realizes the violation of this warranty.

Aside from the express and implied warranty, there is also a lifetime warranty which will give you a guarantee of the lifetime of the product you purchase. Of course this does not mean that you would automatically get a new hot tub every time the hot tub does not work. The distributor or the manufacturer might cover defects created by the construction of one product. But you need to read the warranty carefully in order to know what parts of the product that is included in the warranty.

The warranty that you purchase along with the product is to protect you from having to pay extra or even double the cost of the products if there is any missing or broken parts. Sometimes products that have better warranty would cost more than the others. But if it could save you extra cash in the future, then it might be a good option.
